5:42 p.m. viva le MSG, down with the OMV! 2002-11-26
Reaped the closer thanksgiving gets, the less i'm inclined to write about it. so i won't. suffice it to say there will be a great holocaust of poultry, and gravy will rain down from the sky, drowning the unwashed in giblets of redemption, as the four food groups ride out to punish the wicked.

i'll probably be sitting in the dmv when it happens. for today i discovered yet another reason why louisiana is really like its own little third world country. went to one dmv place on vets hwy. have to leave and find an atm after discovering they operate on a cash only basis. get back, stand in line some more, only to be told that the computers are down, and everyone will just have to be patient and wait.

awhile later, the same employee relates the same message to us again. finally noticing the 'driver's license ONLY!' sign on the wall, i ask if i can change my registration & tags at this location. you can guess the answer, but at least they give you directions to the other dmv locations.

so i get in the car to drive from metairie to lake forest. and proceed to get lost in the new orleans projects. (another thing to note, nola has no dmv's within the city limits, go figure) i begin to realize this is a fruitless mission. at the dmv, the computers are still down. they remain that way for an hour, until i'm hungry & annoyed & have to be at work in a half hour. so i go. in most likelihood the computers came up about ten minutes after i left. oh well. i really hope they have that fixed by next weds., which is the absolute last day i can switch my plates and not *technically* break the law driving to work. at this point its best not to think, just do.

but all is not lost. i learned several lessons today:

1)it's better to keep your vehicle registered at your parent's house in florida than to deal with the Louisiana OMV

2)the Lake Forest Wendy's beats the gonads out of the New Orleans Rally's.

3)Chinese food from 5 Happiness will keep in your car for at least 3 hours if in the shade, and still be edible even if there's pork & shrimp in it.
