| Reaped | from: Syllabus News, Resources, and Trends for Feb. 25, 2003 Students Spend More Time Inebriated than in Class well, duh. -------- -------- -------- -------- you know that old adage about death always occuring in threes? well, there was sister's kitty ;( and now my mom's boyfriend's** father. kinda sad news, and i wonder, who's next? //////// \\ //////// \\ **you may be familiar with a certain concept called the 'nukular family'. it is part of what i like to call 'the great amerikkkan lie'. my parents divorced when i was about 7 (i remember, around the time superman 2 came out maybe? when they first introduced green st patty's day milkshakes at mcdonalds? who knows...)chalk it up to drinking, drug abuse, religion, the water in palm beach gardens, whatever, they did, it's fine. anyway, this scarred both parents for the rest of their lives. living with each other, i think. like my dad still says to me, "weezer1d, don't ever get married. EVER. live with 'em, love 'em, do what you want, just don't ever ever EVER tie the knot." great fatherly advice, dad. Now, pass the bong, will you ? in any event, they both have significant others that they've lived with for over ten years each, but neither have ever remarried & probably never will. so it's an issue of semantics. is john 'my mom's boyfriend', 'quasi-stepfather', "johnny-boy", "bubba"(mom's fave) or what? being the stickler for accuracy i say 'my mom's boyfriend', and it doesn't really matter i guess. in the spirit of librarianship, perhaps the acronym M.M.B.F.A.K.A.J.R.H.? it just sounds strange to introduce a close member of your family as something so clumsy. but 'stepdad' is pretty much a lie, and my mom would beat me if she heard. but the point remains, regardless of moniker, his dad was a good guy: a minister in ohio, jack-of-all-trades, happily married over 65 years...kinda sad, but i guess it was time. |
